Xavier University’s College of Pharmacy is celebrating American Pharmacists Month and will host its annual “Operation Diabetes” event at Lakeside Mall on Saturday, October 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. The theme for the American Pharmacists Association month is “Know your MEDICINE! Know your PHARMACIST!”
“The purpose of this event is to bring awareness to the New Orleans community and surrounding areas about diabetes and screen those who may be at risk,” said XU APA chapter president Breannie Charles.
Free services will be provided which include: Blood sugar tests, blood pressure tests, cholesterol tests, bone density screening, body mass index tests, nutrition counseling, and medication counseling and reviews. Representatives from the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation will be available for information.
Target and Walgreens pharmacists will be available for counseling as well. Prizes and T-shirts will be available at the event. Xavier Pharmacy students and members of the APA-Academy of Student Pharmacists will host the event.
