Life is full of moments where a single choice can dramatically shape the future. Sometimes, decisions of such magnitude can seem overwhelming, leaving individuals and families looking for a resource to ensure that they are making an informed decision.
There are fewer crossroads in life more important than deciding where a child will attend school. In an effort to make certain every parent has the resources they need to make an informed decision, the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools has partnered with the New Orleans Parents Organizing Network to launch Louisiana School Finder, an online tool to assist families in finding the best possible public school for their child.
Louisiana School Finder is as a web-based companion to the New Orleans Parents’ Guide to Public Schools, allowing parents to create side-by-side public school comparisons, view testing data and share their findings with other parents.
Key features include:
• School Profiles — School profiles are a highlight of Louisiana School Finder, where parents can learn about an individual school’s application process, performance data and student services, as well as how to contact a school for further information.
• School Comparison — School Finder allows families to compare key attributes (including transportation, health services and after-school activities) of all public schools in New Orleans to help make an informed enrollment decision. Additionally, parents will be able to review up-to-date performance data for schools.
• Charter School Understanding — School Finder helps families distinguish between schools run by the Recovery School District, Orleans Parish School Board or independent charter operators.
• Easy Access to Key Information — School Finder enables everyone to clearly and quickly assess the academic performance of all public schools, as well as browse schools based on grade-level or school type (i.e., charter or traditional).
When families have all the facts in hand, decisions that once seemed daunting can be made with complete assurance. With Louisiana School Finder as a resource, the school selection process can go from stressful to seamless: Informed parents making informed decisions.
Louisiana School Finder is a first-of-its-kind program in Louisiana, and we are constantly looking for new ways to improve its abilities to serve families. Parents are encouraged to visit http://laschoolfinder.com and share their thoughts through the website, Facebook or Twitter.
