The Louisiana Weekly Student of the Week
The Louisiana Weekly Student of the Week, co-sponsored by The University of New Orleans and WDSU, recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding high school seniors and advancing juniors in New Orleans schools. Students may be nominated by submitting a nomination letter or by sending an e-mail to sow@louisianaweekly.com. Nominated students should show exemplary scholastic and extracurricular work, and we are particularly interested in students who have worked for and achieved their early success in difficult conditions. Seven of the Students of the Week selected throughout the academic year will be eligible for full scholarships at the University of New Orleans. A panel of representatives from the University of New Orleans and The Louisiana Weekly selects Students of the Week and scholarship winners. Current High School seniors and rising seniors (second term juniors) are eligible to receive the award. At this time, we are only accepting nominations from students within the New Orleans Public Schools system. Nominations should come in the form of a letter (on official business letterhead) from a high school principal, teacher,
counselor, clergyman, employer or elected official, or a valid e-mail from those sources. Nominations should include
the name, age, school, grade, GPA and any other indicators of academic achievement. Nominations will be judged on
how well they illustrate the following qualifications: A committee of faculty members from the University of New Orleans and editors from The Louisiana weekly and WDSU will meet once a month to select students. The selection panel will not give status updates on nominations. All nominations will remain eligible throughout the calendar year. Each month, four students and their accomplishments will be featured in The Louisiana Weekly. At the end of the calendar year, the University of New Orleans will host an honors banquet for all the awardees. At that time UNO and The Weekly will honor seven previous winners as the student of the year. Send nomination letters to: |
